What is Financial Aid?

Financial aid (FAFSA) offers many benefits for students attending community college right after high school. It helps cover the costs of tuition, books, supplies, and other expenses, making education more affordable and less stressful. This support allows students to focus on their studies and succeed academically.

There are different types of financial aid available through the FAFSA (free application for federal student aid):

  • Grants: Free money based on financial need. You don’t have to pay it back.

  • Scholarships: Free money based on merit, such as good grades, sports, or special talents. You don’t have to pay it back.

  • Loans: Borrowed money that you must repay with interest after finishing school.

  • Work-Study: Part-time jobs that help you earn money while attending school.

Financial aid is important because it makes college possible for many students who might not afford it otherwise. It can reduce the amount of student debt you have to take on, which is better for your financial future. With financial aid, you can focus more on your classes and less on worrying about money.

Additionally, financial aid can open doors to better job opportunities by allowing you to get the education and training you need. A community college education can lead to good-paying jobs or further education at a four-year university.
