What is the Difference Between Trade School and Community College?
Sometimes, the difference between these similar-sounding pathways is not always clear. If you are not sure what the difference is, keep reading!
Trade certificates offer specialized training in a particular field, providing hands-on experience and quicker entry into the workforce. This can be done on the job site or at a community college. These community college certificates are earned by taking a designated set of courses that are typically more hands-on and provide specific training for a selected field.
Meanwhile, attending a community college provides a broader education, covering various subjects. You can earn a 2-year associate's degree and/or complete the general education courses that can transfer to a four-year institution and will count as the first two years toward your bachelor’s degree.
Consider your career goals: if you're passionate about a specific trade or seek immediate employment, a trade/certificate might suit you. Alternatively, if you value a well-rounded education or plan to pursue further studies, an associate's degree may be the better option. Reflect on your aspirations and weigh the benefits of each pathway to determine the best fit for your future endeavors.
