Why You Should Meet With a Military Recruiter
Meeting with a military recruiter is an important step if you're thinking about joining the military. The recruiter’s job is to give you accurate information about the branch you’re interested in and help guide you through the process.
Here’s what to expect:
A recruiter will explain the different career options, benefits like education and healthcare, and help you figure out if the military is a good fit for your goals. If you have questions about the job, living arrangements, or training, this is the person to ask.
What happens at the meeting?
During your meeting, the recruiter will ask questions about your background, like your education, interests, and any skills you might already have. They’ll also tell you about the requirements to join, such as age limits, physical fitness standards, and medical qualifications.
Next steps before enlisting:
After talking with the recruiter, you'll likely take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test, which helps identify which jobs in the military might be a good fit for you. If you decide to move forward, there will also be a physical exam to make sure you’re fit to serve.
Meeting with a recruiter doesn't mean you have to sign up right away. It’s just an information session to help you understand your options.
